One year after a chance encounter, struggling writers Jess Spencer and Emmett Shelby are fatefully reunited by Emmett's successful twin sister Daisy. Jess is soon introduced to the Shelby siblings' extended circle of friends: Daisy's illustrator boyfriend Barney Fields, their flamboyant landlord Hugh Darvill, and eccentric literary agent Jenny Sinclair. As the group face the ups-and-downs of their lives and careers, they eventually come to rely on each other in ways only a family could truly understand.
